For me, Newton's cradle is one of the greatest invention ever. Why? Because it is both easy and hard. Easy because we know how to do the experiment and hard because we cannot explain the origin of why THIS happens.
An art student called Yasutoki Kariya has apply this theory into his idea "Asobi". His inspiration towards Newron's third law of motion was demonstrated through "Asobi". I was first mesmerized by this extremely creative idea of his. The balls transfer velocity to each other, that's why only the first ball and the ball at the end move.
Amazingly, this had led to Kariya's success. He had successfully replaced the balls with lightbulbs. So instead of tranferring movement with each other, he let lightbulbs to transfer the light, and it was magical.
Amazing, right? Have you ever wonder why this happen? Today, we will reveal Kariya's secret to you.
"Meaning “play,” the installation is comprised of 11 computer-programmed incandescent light bulbs hung from strings. They playfully re-enact Newton’s Cradle – or more aptly, Edison’s Cradle – visualizing the transfer of kinetic energy, along with a very satisfying click-clack. Mesmerizing. "
I love how creative people can be. I really hope that we can carry out such experiments. Next post will be about all the fun facts about your body. Stay tuned
Re - visualizing Newton's Cradle
