Science & You
BVIS HANOI (VV)
Phuong & Chi
I was shock when I first read this article (in Vietnamese). I am trying my best to translate. In my opinion, this is one of the most interesting fact you wouldn't want to miss :D.
Where the explosion is going to take place
Where the explosion is going to take place
The plan of destroying the Moon, which was kept in more than 4 decades, is finally revealed by the nuclear physicist Leonard Reiffel, deputy director of the A119 project, a United States Air Force project intending to detonate a nuclear warhead on the Moon. The aim of the project is the Moon, was secretly called “ Possiblity of a flight to the moon”, and had the alias “Project A119.
Project A119 was first mentioned in1958. As we had been told, Washington was intended to put a hydrogen bomb (H bomb) on the Moon as a revenge on Moscow, as they were the first to succeed in launching the first artificial satellite (Sputnik – 1) of the Earth in 1967.
Project A119 was applied in reality with the basic theory of taking human through the Solar System to approach with other civilization from the outer space. The rocket will bring nuclear weapons straight to the surface of the Moon. The contact area will create a massive explosion, which the whole Earth will be able to watch.
NASA's Plans To Destroy The Moon
Project A119 was applied in reality with the basic theory of taking human through the Solar System to approach with other civilization from the outer space. The rocket will bring nuclear weapons straight to the surface of the Moon. The contact area will create a massive explosion, which the whole Earth will be able to watch.
On the other hand, U.S. Air Force were determined that even though the rocket is really strong, it won’t be able to carry such heavy thing like H bomb through million miles to the moon. To that, we have to find another weapon as substitution.
At that time, light nuclear weapon like neutron bomb or thermonuclear bomb was not invented, so the problems in weapon were not solved at that time.
Most of the US honored scientists had pointed out the weaknesses in the plan. First, what if the rocket had problems and it had to carry the weapons fell back to the earth? It would create a massive nuclear explosion alongside with unpredictable disaster.
Second, million of broken pieces from the crash in the Moon will create asteroid rain constantly attacking the Earth. It will turn lots of residential areas into dead places, which would endanger the living of humanity.
Finally is the highly radioactive clouds, which would stay for million years in weightless condition, would cause trouble for flights are set off to conquer the space latter on.
In conclusion, the idea of discovering and exploring is better than destroying this magnificent plant. Because of the reasons above, early in 1969, project A119 was cancelled by Washington.
Should NASA proceed the plan?

This is the infographic that I designed myself. It is about the pros and cons of destroying the moon.
Space is amazing. Unfortunately, I only found out about it several days ago. I'm going to show you the most incredible star rains ever. Stay tuned, hope you having fun spending time with me.
