Hooke's law
Spring constant: when obeying Hooke's Law: F ∝ x => F = kx ( k is the spring constant with unit Nm^-1) => k = F/x
Limit of proportionality: The point where F is no longer proportional to the extension (Brittle material breaks before any plastic deformation => never reach an elastic limit)
Elastic Limit: where the deformation becomes plastic
Yield Point: The point at which where the material extends even without additional force. It will not contract at all when the force is removed. This is whee the plastic flow begins ( generally, the yield point is where the graph passes the horizintal)
ultimate tensile strength
At some point on the graph the material will break. The ultimate tensile (under tension) strength (UTS) of a material is the maximum force it can withstand before breaking. It is a measure of the strength of a material
